When you don’t feel like working

I found myself in an interesting – and weird – place after returning home from a recent getaway to celebrate my 10-year anniversary with Jay (my rockstar significant other).

While there, I quickly fell into 100% relaxation mode. Seriously, we did not leave the resort a single time. We just hung out at the pool all day long (under an umbrella with SPF 30 on of course).

Usually after vacation, I am excited to get back to work, but I swear this time I had what felt like a vacation hangover.

Has this ever happened to you?

For the 1st time ever, I did not feel like working – at all?!?!

I got back to my spa and honestly, every moment that I spent there felt like torture! I could not wait to leave.

But I LOVE my clients and my work – what?!?!

This was so out of character for me that it really got me thinking and analyzing…

Here’s what I discovered from this rare occurrence:

1. Our thoughts greatly contribute to our success destiny

I didn’t feel like being at work and guess what… the universe supported that feeling. I swear that entire week fell apart in a New York minute.

Yup, cancellations started happening quickly and they didn’t stop.

On Friday of that week, I only had four clients and I was done by 1:30pm. This was CRAZY… I am usually at the spa and booked back-to-back until 6:30 or 7pm.

Meanwhile, Annie, my right hand gal, had an amazing energy – she’d been working hard to buy her 18-year old daughter a car and guess what?

While I was self-destructing my schedule, I watched her schedule fill up and overflow.

Seriously. Annie’s schedule filled with amazing clients who were buying packages and one client even showed up a week early – talk about attracting them in!

This is solid proof that what we feel about our beauty biz (in our head, heart and soul) directly affects what is given to us by the higher power.

2. Sometimes you have to give yourself permission

I mentioned that my empty day made me feel weird – and boy did it! I was unsettled and I kept wondering what I could I do to be productive with my now-free time.

-Spring clean the spa?
-Write my next few Skin Inc. articles?
-Cut 4 lbs of muslin?
-Create 10 power point presentations for the October Live Event?
-Go to the denim sale at Bloomingdales?
-Vacuum the house?

Then it hit me – hard – that none of this was the answer.

What I had to do was give myself permission to go home, order a pizza, and watch a good chick flick.

So, that’s what I did.

3. Tomorrow is a new day

While I was at home full of pizza and snoozing on the couch, my schedule for the next day actually filled up! Thank you Universe!

I took a moment to give thanks for online booking, pizza delivery, and HBO Go, and then I dropped to sleep.

#TRUTH – Sometimes we have to allow ourselves to disconnect and know that it doesn’t mean we will lose our place in the success line. Sometimes the opposite happens and we get a fast-pass instead.

What do you do when you’re stuck in a rut?
