Are you willing to commit to your success?
Not going to lie… I am fired up! So get ready for some raw truth as you read this.
Let me set the stage…
I have been trying to rent a room at my spa for a few months, and something has shifted since the last time I had to do this, which was six years ago.
For some reason, it’s seeming like the beauty biz world has turned into a noncommittal society.
I have a clean and beautiful space, the rent is more than fair, there is a TON of free parking (this is a biggie in LA), and I will support your success like no other!
Yet, I have gotten calls asking for an hourly rate, a day rate and a “whenever I need it” rate.
WTH?
I am in disbelief at the uncertainty, lack / limited mindset, and chaos these potential renters are carrying around with them. It’s an energy that feels so heavy and so unnecessary.
Massage therapists, estheticians, and nail techs are terrified that they are not going to make it even when I break it down to the simple fact that the rent is equal to seeing approximately 1-2 clients per week. How is it that one still cannot see their way in spite of being shown it so clearly?
The only explanation I can come up with is that many Beauty Biz Practitioners are simply unwilling to commit to the process of what it takes to create a successful practice.
I have not spoken with one potential renter that has both feet in.
How in the heck can someone expect to welcome success into their life if they only have one foot in the success door and the other foot is outside that door ready to run?
Imagine how Maria Sharapova (one of the world’s greatest tennis players) would play if she were standing on one foot during a tennis tournament?
All I can hope is that these people get a much needed mindset shift. Because without that, they are setting themselves up for failure before they’ve even given themselves a fair shot at success!
I’m wondering what your thoughts are as you read this.
If you are feeling triggered by these words, then that’s good because it probably means you are longing to do better and primed to take some action. And that is the soul purpose for me writing this out at four o’clock in the morning.
If you are sick of your status quo, but have been too scared to create forward movement, here are some tips to transform so you can start to get yourself unstuck.
1. Map it out
I promise you that change is much less scary if you have a directional plan of action to follow.
I can remember back 15 years ago when I wanted to rent my first spa room for $200 per week. At the time, I had only 3-4 clients, and I was scared… really scared.
But I knew in my heart that the new space had to be better than my current room! So, I started the forward movement process by doing research and found out what the actual cost would be and then how long it would take me to make that money back.
You could say, I created a GPS for my success. Having it took away many of the “I am lost, stuck, scared and overwhelmed” feelings putting me on a much clearer path to my goals.
2. Fortune Favors The Bold
If you want to find your beauty biz bliss you have to make some bold moves and just go for it.
Take a moment to imagine where you want to be. I mean really feel what it would be like if you went for it (100% in – you couldn’t fail), and accomplished it!
I bet you found that most everything you want will require you to put on that business bravery cap and step out of your comfort zone (aka “stuck zone”).
I bet the feeling of accomplishment that you just imaged was a delightful space to be in.
So get yourself in gear!
Each morning when you wake up, list out 3 Business Bravery steps that you want to accomplish that day.
You don’t have to be perfect here… even small and imperfect steps will create forward movement and help you become a better version of you.
3. Stop caring so much what everyone else thinks
You will find that some of your friends and family members will offer (free but unqualified) advice and (unsolicited, strong) opinions about this business of yours. These “offerings” can make us question ourselves, overthink and hold us back because after all, these people care about us. They do mean well but they don’t have your passion and your vision.
You must be clear on your “why,” your purpose, and you must know that you can be taken seriously as a career driven professional – even in the beauty business – when you are brave enough to create it.
I promise you, everything you need already exists. You just have to believe, hustle and work hard for it.
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I am fired up, so stay-tuned for more beauty biz motivation and direction to get you clear on your path to Beauty Biz Success.
I want you to save the date of February 6th, 2017 because there’s something exciting and inspiring that will start that day. Stay tuned because you’ll be hearing more about that very soon!
