Have you looked lately?

Please take out your last credit card bill and examine it. I am being serious. Take out your last credit card bill and speak some truth to yourself.

What are you spending money on?

Are you spending foolishly?

What is the last investment that you made in becoming a better you?

What is the last investment that you made to help you become a better beauty biz professional?

What is the last thing you spent money on to help you create a flow of rock star clients into your beauty biz?

I remember when my business coach asked me for my numbers. Yes, she wanted to see what I was making and what I was spending. She said lets “really” take a look at what you’re doing. My 1st thought was, “crap I hate looking at my bills!”

Honestly, I got scared. Why? I don’t know exactly, but I do know that you probably feel the same way when it comes to having someone look at what you are spending money on.

Then my coach said something that really spoke to me – something quite profound and so true. She said,

Many people are just ignorant about money, they say they want / need to make more money but the truth is that they aren’t even paying attention to what they are doing with the money they have. So how do they know they need more?

This was a great lesson for me – one I have to share with you.

And truth be told, when I looked at my financial reports and saw everything broken down, it wasn’t nearly as scary as I expected it to be.

I can’t say this enough, it is SUPER important to check your numbers and see what you are making AND what you are spending that on.

In the financial world, they refer to this report as your profit and loss statement and the truth of the matter is that this report is full of clues about how and where you can improve.

Thinking back to those “leaner” days, I did this at the beginning of each month (and still do to this day).

I look at the report in QuickBooks, and set my intention for what I expect of my income – and myself – for the upcoming month.

I know committing to this each month was one of the reasons why my business thrived when everyone expected me to fail.

The other commitment that I always made to help me power through any scary financial times was that I consistently invested in “me.”

Back then, I had no idea that this commitment (and keeping it!) was the wisest business decision I could make. I was just scared out of my wits and investing in myself helped me not feel so afraid – it held me up all the time.

Now of course, I see how that was the secret sauce for me and my business.

I still remember vividly the very first time I invested in “me.”

I felt crazy spending money on a Women In Business seminar. It was several years ago and it was $125.00 (for just a few hours of guidance), and that felt reckless and scary given the state of my income. I swear, I almost backed out 100 times. I kept asking myself, “Why am I spending money on this? Why am I missing work to do this?”

I did end up going and it changed my life – it’s when I stepped out of that box that kept me contained and “safe.” And to this day, because of the life-changing impact of that first seminar, I still make sure that I attend at least one business-building specific seminar each year. This is the first commitment I fulfill – before I purchase anything new for my spa.

Why?

Because investing in “me” has paid me back exponentially – and in so many magical ways.

It has allowed me to buy new equipment for the spa.

It has given me the know-how to generate income to pay my credit card bills off in full each month.

It has enabled me to bring in my dream product line without freaking out over the opening order minimums.

One day while on the treadmill (which is where I seem to receive 99% of my crazy beautiful business ideas) I realized nobody was doing this for the beauty biz world and I knew that had to change.

So I created my first live event! It was my way of inviting others to invest in their self-growth in a very targeted, specific way, and to welcome magical changes into their beauty biz practices.

I’ve had a few of those events now and they always sell out! The training is unmatched – you will be fired up! There’s major relationship building among attendees, and these are lasting, supportive relationships – just ask anyone who has been. The short time out of your treatment room in a gorgeous, nurturing, designed-for-success atmosphere changes you – forever.

So please take that credit card bill out and take a look at what you are spending your hard earned money on. Are you investing in anything to help YOU grow?

Are you investing in anything to help you energize, expand and evolve as a beauty biz professional?

If the answer is no, then I would like to encourage you to change that.

Join me for The Beauty Biz Workshop coming up in October. I promise if the next investment you make is on YOU, you won’t regret it!
