Money Mindset: Are you using yours to enhance or destroy?
One of my employees recently attended a skin care product training where everyone had to introduce themselves and say where they worked.
Now, she also has a home-based skin care practice so she announced that, and then the instructor added that she works for me as well.
One of the of the other attendees said, “Oh you work for Lori Crete? Tell her she is too expensive.”
My gal felt embarrassed (and, rightfully so). She was caught off guard and a little taken aback that someone would pipe in during her time of introduction to publicly insult her boss.
When she told me what had happened, I said that I was sorry and next time for her to just respond, “ok can I get your name and email, and I will be happy to pass your opinion along to Lori.”
Honestly, I didn’t get emotionally triggered by the other gal’s opinion. But I will say that the mother bear in me did get a little annoyed that my beautiful, kind and professional employee felt hurt by someone else… because of what I charge for my coaching and business training programs.
That insensitive comment really got me thinking about the significance of our money mindset.
After taking some time to process, I decided to share my thoughts and opinions on pricing, investing and the term “too expensive AND how a money mindset can either enhance or destroy one’s success journey.
“I can’t afford it, or it’s too expensive” is a fear-based excuse to not step up and play bigger.
I hear people say this all the time! …and then I see them spend thousands on clothing, shoes, makeup or a few nights out with girlfriends.
If you know you’ve used this one… be mindful and honest with yourself surrounding where you choose to invest your money.
Your ROI (return on investment) is where to focus rather than on the price tag attached to something. Doing this will open your mind to an increase in knowledge, expertise and a new level of success.
ROI forecasting requires playing with numbers and seeing how you can use the investment wisely to start increasing your bookings and profits.
The act of investing in yourself to gain business, marketing and sales skills is NOT a luxury.
I have found that once you feel comfortable investing in yourself and your business, it’s easier to feel confident charging what you deserve for your offerings.
For example, if you invest $300 into something that will make you feel accomplished and skillful you will find it easier to sell $300 worth of treatments and/or products that you know will help a client look and feel their beautiful best.
When you have invested in your business in a way that excites and scares you (in other words, like a grown up, professional business owner), you immediately start to show up in a more professional manner.
A “Game On Attitude” appears in a beautiful way and you suddenly feel more confident and professional.
I have seen this many times in my coaching programs, right after some gals have joined, their clients start to ask them why they are looking so good. Confidence is the best beauty enhancer!
“Is it a new hair style, new makeup?” Nope, just a newfound, I-am-going-to-become-more-successful energy 😉
Investing and creating abundance – with certainty – does require being honest with yourself and learning your mindset money triggers.
Ask yourself honestly, “Do I have a lack mentality?”
If the answer is yes (and I believe we all have a bit of this holding us back), then do some soul searching to figure out why the energy surrounding certain money situations feels scary, or negative to you. Where did those ideas you’ve been carrying around come from in the first place?
Self-awareness is a powerful tool to help you do better, grow as a practitioner, and create more abundance in your world. I don’t want to see you let old outdated beliefs hold you back… especially when they may not have even been yours in the first place.
I will conclude this…
I am proud of my coaching business. I am proud of what I have done to help others by sharing my trade secrets, field-test systems, and success rituals.
I have been blessed to attract some of the beauty industry’s most amazing, kind, and determined practitioners into my programs.
I have been blessed to watch so many of them do the work required to build themselves up to the levels of success that they desire and deserve. I have watched many of them position themselves as confident professionals who are proud of what they do and proud that their job is no longer considered just a hobby by their loved ones.
I offer many programs at many different price points – most well below what business coaches traditionally charge. I develop the pricing structures with a team of professionals who I invest in to help me serve my coaching clients with integrity, professionalism and the opportunity for growth.
Let’s face it (no pun intended) building a beauty biz (or any biz really) requires a lot of hard work and a healthy money mindset, so let us each commit to building each other up and supporting each other instead of judging others based on some old beliefs.
