My Slowest Week – EVER!

At my live event back in February one of the gals in the audience asked me if I ever had “slow times” or “frustrating moments” in my esthetician world.

And…

MY answer, “A BIG OL’ YES MA’AM!”

Last week was so slow I could barely stand it.

Maybe you can relate…7 hours of last minute cancellations, hours and hours of gaps between clients and ONLY 1 appointment (a 15 minute eyebrow wax) on a Saturday. Saturday – the day I am usually booked out for months with a waiting list. Saturday!

Arrrgggg!

The real and raw truth is that I have had to train my mind to not think the world is coming to an end when these challenging times appear in my esthetician world.

So, I will share with you…

10 Ways I Stay Sane During Slow Times

1. Invest in online trainings. Last week I took 5 online webinars and it was a great way to keep my energy positive and my passion for skin care close to my heart.

These were no – to low cost webinars and they are offered everywhere. When I choose to invest my free time this way it keeps me feeling good even when times are slow. I highly recommend this approach.

2. I sent text messages to 3 clients that had been on my mind that I hadn’t see in a while.

I was honest and I said, “It’s weird but I am having a slow week. If you need anything last minute (it’s a rare occasion), I have plenty of time to fit ya in and would love to see your smiling face.”

3. Created a newsletter for the spa.

I am going to speak the truth here… this is something (shame on me) that I have neglected since the live event. It actually felt really good to get back on track.

4. I bought new sheets.

Not for the spa, but for me and it was exciting because for a long time I have wanted to upgrade my bedding, but just hadn’t had time.

Ahhhh… self care is an awesome way to power through a challenging week.

5. I cleaned.

Not just the surface clean, but I deep cleaned my treatment room and my home. Sometimes we are given a slow period so we can cleanse and make room for the fresh and the new. Using my time this way really made me happy. 🙂

6. Savored the moments with each and every client that came in.

I offered add-ons (most of the time I am too booked for this) so it was great to do promo services that some of my long-time clients didn’t even know I offered.

I even got to explain products to them and got to sit and have a cup of tea with a few of my favs!

7. I created a Spray Tanning Special that I will launch next month.

I called and texted a bunch of spray tanning clients (that have been hibernating this winter) to tell them to check their email as juicy deets and HUGE savings were on the way to their inbox.

8. I called and facebook messaged a handful of people who had been asking me skin care questions.

This resulted in shipping $450.00 of products all over the US. Woot! Woot!

9. I left work early on Saturday.

This NEVER happens and it was an endorphin rush… I felt like I was on vacation!

10. I tipped more than I normally do.

Yup, I put it out there that I was confident next week would be better and I was going to give, give, give. I am a firm believer that when you give it comes back to you in many different ways.

P.S. – This week is back to normal and I am feeling good about the fact that I didn’t allow a slow period to ruin my entire week.

Truth is, we are in a cyclical industry and you must not let a slow time bring you down.
