Oh Crap! Is this an opportunity?
Oh Crap Moments and what they mean.
I recently spoke at a skin care summit about these moments and how they are often presented to us when we need to step forward and bravely make a change or a shift. Funny enough, I even got to witness one happen to a fellow esthetician the very same day.
Oh Crap… I can’t do that. Oh Crap… the thought of that makes me sick. Oh Crap… I know I should, but what will others think? Oh crap this idea sounds great, but it will never work.
When these types of thoughts enter your mind, it is triggering something within you. These are the thoughts you want to spend some time addressing because they reveal your next best success step.
Oh Crap Moments can often = AMAZING OPPORTUNITIES.
Let me share with you what happened to Shari at our summit. Shari is a successful esthetician, but makeup just wasn’t her thing.
During the makeup presentation she mentioned (a few times) that she didn’t wear it, didn’t carry it, and just didn’t like it. I asked if she realized how much money she was leaving on the table with her current thought process. The host of the event challenged her to just try it on for the evening cocktail party. Shari was VERY reluctant at first, but being a good sport she went for it… saying, “oh crap, I will give it a try”.
Shari showed up at the party looking radiant, with a huge smile on her face and had a bag full of makeup to retail at her skin care center.
UPDATE: I just spoke to Shari and she loves selling the makeup and (even more exciting) it has sparked a newfound interest, and she is now looking into becoming a full-blown makeup artist. Woot! Woot!
So next time you have one of these moments ask yourself these questions:
1. Why am I allowing this thought to trigger something in me? Am I scared, excited, feeling challenged, am I afraid of some hard work?
2. How could this thought benefit my success?
3. If all were to work out perfectly what would the end result be?
If the answers make you smile, then it’s probably an opportunity you should pursue.
