How being mindful makes you more attractive
Today, I’d like to share a situation that happens far too often in our industry. The story below recently happened and it reminded me that it’s something that I wanted to talk to you about.
“Beth” (not her real name) is my ideal client. She comes in regularly. She runs on time. She drives an hour to get to me and swears she would never cheat on me even though she can get a spray tan much closer to home. She refers all her friends to me. Heck, she even raised my price on her own because she noticed that I wasn’t charging her what was listed on my menu! When I see her name on my schedule, I smile just because I get to spend some time with her… her vibe is positive and you know what I always say, Energy – good or bad – is contagious!
Yesterday, I was spray tanning Beth and I asked how a mutual friend was doing. Let’s call this friend, Susie. Susie happens to be Beth’s hairdresser.
Here’s what Beth had to say about Susie…
“You know Lori, all she wants to talk about during my appointments is politics. This is a topic I know nothing about and I feel it’s an inappropriate conversation to have with your client. Susie gets so fired up that it makes me feel stressed out. I work really hard and my beauty treatments are a special treat. I try to change the subject, but it’s like she is so caught up in her beliefs she doesn’t even notice. I leave feeling depleted.”
Wow!
Now, let me be clear here, Susie is truly an awesome person BUT she is not being mindful of how she is making her clients feel!
I think all of us in the beauty biz industry can agree on this:
When a client comes to see us, they should leave looking and feeling beautiful.
Right? Ok then, here’s this week’s reality check:
Be mindful of your conversation while working on your client. This is something that can make or break you when it comes to attracting new clients… and keeping the ones you currently have wanting to come back.
Stop and think for a second about the conversations you have been having lately. Are they the kind of conversations that will have your clients leaving your space feeling like you want them to feel? Are you pumping them up by having fun, light-hearted and meaningful communication with them? Or, are you bringing them down with too serious, whiny, gossipy, judgmental or highly charged topics?
If you stop and think about the kind of experience that you want your clients to have with you, it’s really all about creating a sacred space that feeds your client’s heart and soul. Right?
Being mindful of your own energy and how you share it with those around you will create much success IF you keep it positive!
