WT# I only have 2 clients?!?!
Recently, I had a boatload of cancellations in a single day.
All legit. All 24 hours in advance.
I freaked out and said to Annie (my right hand spa gal), “WT#? When is the last time I only had two clients on my book?”
I am sad to say that I fell into the “OMG is my business failing” mindset… for a few seconds. (I am human and not above spazzing out for no reason on occasion.)
I had Annie call one client that I hadn’t seen in a while to see if I could fill a spot and she did book two future appointments – for later in the month.
Normally I would have kept up the hustle, called a few more clients and sent out a quick email, but honestly (for some weird reason) I just didn’t have the hustle in me that day.
After my second (and last) client left the spa, I cleaned a bit, took Annie to my favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch, and when I got back to the spa my internet was down… AGAIN!
I had been dealing with internet issues for a solid month and had spent over 8 hours on the phone with AT & T trying to fix it. At this point, I was ready to lose my cool.
Seriously, I felt like I might lose my mind over the internet issue, as many days we had no convenient way to schedule clients or check them out via square.
No one at AT & T could figure out why the heck we kept losing the signal.
So Annie and I return from lunch and I hop back on the phone for another two hours with AT & T and I finally find someone who got to the “router” of the problem.
Yes, it was a bad router – the 3rd bad router they had sent me – again wt# why is it so hard to find good customer service?
The truth is, if I had been booked solid and back-to-back like I normally am I would have never been able to finally fix the ongoing internet problem.
So it hit me while I was driving home that night that sometimes we are truly given only what we can handle and we have to welcome the slow times as they allow us to step into other areas of accomplishment.
The next time you have an incredibly slow day look at it as gift to accomplish something amazing… here are some suggestions:
- Organize paperwork
- Automate tasks (ex: set up online bill pay)
- Renegotiate your mobile bill (I just saved $100 a month by making this call)
- Send out long overdue thank you notes
- Call a few clients that have been on your mind
- Invest in self care
I speak from experience here…
Most importantly make that trip to “OMG my biz sucks” go away quickly by being productive.
Oh, and by the way, when I got my end of day square report I actually had made almost the same amount of money that I do when I am crazy booked… confirmation that we are given what we can handle and always taken care of when we show up 100% ready to tackle even the most frustrating of days.
And as for being productive, that still happened… I vacuumed the entire spa while on the phone with AT & T tech department.
