Why is personal growth so darn scary?

Say YesThis year I have decided to say, “yes” to more.

I tend to be an introvert and will say no to a lot of beautiful opportunities because I would rather be home in my PJ’s watching Netflix and not out and about dealing with what I often negatively think of as a hassle (shame on me).

I have always given myself permission to be rather anti-social using the excuse, “I work hard and deserve to relax and regroup.”

Something has shifted in my being over the last 6-months, and I suddenly have this awareness that life is short, and I want to start experiencing it and embracing it in a more fulfilling way.

I want to use the word “yes” to create more in my life.

I want more friendships, more laughter, and more heartfelt connections with other humans.

I want more facial clients – the right clients, who feed my skin care soul – and I want to make more business connections – the business connections that are open to giving and receiving support.

Well it’s February, and I have been saying, “yes” to a lot, and I have to share with you how shocking this new approach has been.

I have been full of fear!

“Yes” has created some significant opportunities for self-growth.

“Yes” has tested my confidence.

“Yes” has allowed me to realize I had been playing small… you know shrinking instead of shining.

“Yes” has made me wonder why the heck wanting more, playing bigger and becoming a better version of yourself is always so darn scary?

I have committed to this word and will continue to press forward and welcome all the fear, growth, excitement, opportunities and challenges that it brings to me because deep in my heart I know there is some great stuff in store for me.

So, if reading this inspires you to step out of your comfort zone, play bigger, go after what you desire then here are 3 Tips to help you along the journey:

1. Pay attention to the root of what scares you and learn more about it.

Face your fear and learn how to overcome it. Knowledge creates logic and logic can crush fear.

For example:

If it’s the fear of rejection, read a book on confidence or judgment.

If it’s a money fear, then learn more about money and how it can work for you (instead of scaring the crap out of you).

If it’s a fear of change, talk to someone who has successfully done what you want to do and ask them a bunch of questions surrounding how they reached their goal.

Our world packed full of ways to become more knowledgeable, so take advantage of this.

2. When wanting more and deciding to shine rather than shrink, you have to keep reminding yourself that you deserve happiness, success, abundance, support, and love.

Create a daily mantra and always tell yourself that you are deserving of good, new and better.

3. Use your growth as an opportunity to retrain your brain.

This new approach to life has made me think differently, in a more positive manner, and it’s been so helpful on the “yes” journey!

When I need to make a scary “yes” type decision, I immediately make myself think of 10 positive things that can happen if I chose to step forward. The ten “good things” mindset approach has been working wonderfully for a self-proclaimed catastrophe maker and allowing me to welcome beautiful new opportunities into my life. ☺

Here’s to you saying, “YES” to more in your life!
