The World Is Depressing Me…

Do you have that special person in your life who you don’t talk to very often, but every time you do it’s a very special occasion and you feel more enlightened, more intelligent and more powerful?

For me, this person is my BFF’s mom.

She lives 3000 miles away and we don’t talk a ton, but when we do there are many aha moments, lots of laughs and a few tears.

I feel so lucky to have a soul connection with such an AMAZING woman. She is happy, smart, thoughtful, grateful, and shares her perspective on life in a way that moves me.

Last week, she said something that stuck with me and made me think about how we could start to become more successful as a whole in the beauty biz industry…

She said, “Lori, for the 1st time ever the world is depressing me. Over the last 20 years a shift has taken place. We have stopped taking care of each other and if we could get that back we could make everything better.”

WOW!

I have been feeling the same way about the beauty biz industry!

We are not thinking as a whole, instead we are focusing on ourselves in a fear-based way.

Let me explain what I mean about “fear-based” thinking…

Unfortunately the failing economy created the “Discounting Delirium” in our industry.

Many of us are operating in “fear mode.”

  • “If I charge less than you, I will capture your client.”
  • “If I daily deal it, I will build the biz of my dreams.”
  • “If I lower my pricing, I will get busy.”

Many estheticians have been grossly undercharging and it’s hurting our profession as a whole.

I truly believe that if we shift this fear-based approach, and start thinking from a place of confidence, we will all start attracting more abundance.

If we shift from “I am in this alone” fear-based pricing we will change the fact that the average esthetician is still only $28,000 per year in this $20 billion dollar industry.

Think about the cast from the show “Friends.” They joined forces and negotiated the highest salary ever paid to a television ensemble.

As Matt LeBlanc explained it to ABC News, David Schwimmer decided they should unite in their negotiations. “He initiated the idea that if we all stick together, nobody can rattle us … it worked out really good,” said LeBlanc. “For me personally, I was like, yeah that sounds good for me. I’m making the least amount. So sure, I’ll take a raise!”

They stuck together and created abundance from a place of unity not “I am in this alone” fear.

The economy is recovering and we need to change how we are showing up or else we are in serious trouble. Rents will start to increase, equipment will become more expensive and I already see product lines raising their prices.

My fingers are crossed that you’re ready to create a shift and join me in starting a movement of unity and abundance in the beauty biz practitioner world.

One way to create this in your world is to STOP offering daily deals and to start charging what you are worth. This is scary and some clients might disappear, but you have to believe you are creating space for those who truly appreciate your offerings.

Instead…
