Wowzers! What An Emotional Esthetician.
That Emotional Esthetician…
Would. Be. Me!!
I was recently given the opportunity to speak at The Oncology Esthetics Training Certification Program on how to market your services.
Let me walk you through what happened next:
1. Becky the instructor asked if I would like to join in for the entire 3-day course. I said yes, but was honestly wondering if this would be right for me…
It causes me great pain to see people and animals who aren’t feeling well. Honestly, sometimes I actually feel other’s pain! When my grandmother had a stroke and lost her voice, I had a hard time swallowing for 6 months.
2. Then I started wondering, “Ok, how am I going to teach the students to charge for this type of service/treatment without them thinking that I am a total jerk?”
I allowed myself to throw these thoughts around for a few days.
And then I came to this conclusion…
I knew that I needed to set my limiting beliefs aside and just go for it and use it as a tool to grow and to help others. In other words… get over your silly self, Lori!
Over all, I guess this is a process that many of us go through when we step into something that is meaningful. We think of all the things that could go wrong before we allow ourselves to wrap our minds around just how amazing or rewarding the experience could be.
Now I will share with you what took place during 3 days of Oncology Training:
1. I bonded with other estheticians, and I know I will be friends with these gals for life. I just love surrounding myself with people who want to make the world a better place!
2. I gained a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for Becky, the instructor. Some people are such a gift to the human race and she is one of them. Thank you Becky for sharing the hope, joy, awareness, tools, knowledge and your personal journey. Your kindness and generosity is moving.
3. My speech was easy-peasy. My mission was to assist the attendees in removing the fear from marketing this type of service. I wanted to share my belief that we all need to gain clarity around when to charge and when to give through charity and volunteerism.
Now I will share with you what really took place during 3 days of Oncology Training:
4. I got to meet 3 cancer patients, hear their stories and pamper the heck out of them.
Honestly I can’t tell you how powerful it was to connect with another human this way and give them some light in a time when they TOTALLY need it.
We shared lots of tears, hugs and many laughs.
The clients that walked in the door that day left with a completely renewed energy.
And… I was so proud that I was able to give them the gift of TLC.
Unfortunately, cancer is not going away and there is a HUGE need for this type of service provider.
All 3 of our guest said with teary eyes… “Nobody will touch me.”
I have included a photo of Glenn, our client for the day! He was so excited to show his buddies how he spent the afternoon… LOL with 4 ladies pampering him!
It’s true we are taught in school that we shouldn’t work on cancer patients. But there is a safe and proper way to do this.
I can’t tell you how empowered I feel that I can share this knowledge and training with my clients and their loved ones.
